Madison, WI - After another first weekend exit in March Madness, the Wisconsin basketball offseason is in full swing. In 2025, the college basketball offseason and transfer portal shenanigans are synonymous. Two members of the Badgers’ backcourt are already in the portal.

After veteran guard Camren Hunter entered the portal last week, Daniel Freitag soon followed. The heralded prospect out of Minnesota arrived in Madison with plenty of fanfare but had limited opportunities to showcase his talents as a freshman. In his first collegiate campaign, the Breck School standout appeared in 14 games, recording a season-high of five minutes against the Chicago State Cougars.

Although UW head coach Greg Gard’s rotation in the 2025-26 season needs guard minutes, Freitag will not be filling them. Max Klesmit and John Tonje, seniors who have exhausted their eligibility, combined to average 58.7 minutes per game last season.

With his time at Wisconsin coming to a close, Freitag took a few minutes to share his feelings on entering the transfer portal with three seasons of eligibility remaining.
